Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Proclamation

WHEREAS,                   Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong disability, typically appearing in the first three years of life and potentially resulting in significant impairment of an individual’s ability to communicate, understand social interactions, and develop appropriate interactive behaviors; and

WHEREAS,                   Eleven out of every 1,000 Texas children are diagnosed with ASD.  Early diagnosis, appropriate education and interaction throughout one’s life span are vital to the growth and development of the individual; and

WHEREAS,                   Although a cure is not currently known, researchers are investigating a number of possibilities.  During the month of April, an awareness campaign is being conducted to highlight the work of these individuals, as well as to educate the public about ASD.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Maher Maso, Mayor of the City of Frisco, Texas do hereby proclaim April 2010 as

”AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER AWARENESS MONTH”

And encourage everyone in our great City to support our citizens affected by autism and to recognize the hard work families and health care professionals do to support autistic individuals and to find a cure.   Together, we can continue to make a difference for the future.
