Proclamation: National Arbor Day

WHEREAS, The National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, has honored the City of Frisco by naming our great city as a “2009 Tree City USA”. It is the seventh consecutive year that the City of Frisco has received such a prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, The trees in Frisco help clean the air, conserve soil and water, and reduce heating and cooling costs by moderating temperatures. Tree City USA honors the countless men, women, and children in Frisco who are working hard to ensure a greener, healthier tomorrow for us all; and

WHEREAS, Our Urban Forestry Board and our Parks and Recreation Department have planted additional trees in our medians, parkways, park facilities and municipal facilities, and have presented numerous educational programs to FISD elementary school students; and

WHEREAS, This year’s record number of Tree City USA communities shows a growing level of dedication and care for our Urban Forests. In addition, it shows that the Citizens of Frisco value their trees for the beauty, grace, comfort, and practical blessings they bring.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Maher Maso, Mayor of the City of Frisco, Texas, do hereby proclaim June 2010, as

“FRISCO TREE CITY USA MONTH”

And congratulate the Urban Forestry Board, the Parks & Recreation Department, the City of Frisco and our many Citizens who have taken great care and involvement within our community to help make Frisco a “Greener” place to Live, Work, Play and Grow.
