Custer Road Closures

As part of TxDOT’s widening project, different segments of Custer Road will be closed between Stonebridge Drive and US 380 during the day starting Sunday, November 7, and continuing through Thursday, November 11 (weather permitting).  The road will close at 5 AM on Sunday and at 9 AM on the weekdays, and will reopen each night at 9 PM.  Each day a different segment of roadway will be closed.  During these closures, Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway will always be open for east-west traffic, but all through traffic on Custer Road will have to take an alternate route.  Regional traffic should use Stonebridge Drive to the east or Preston Road to the west.  Local traffic will have to follow the posted detour signs around the closures.  The specific road closures and detours on each day are described below and are summarized on the attached map:

Sunday, November 7:
Starting at 5 AM, Custer Road will be closed between Stonebridge Drive and Virginia Parkway during the first part of the day, and then closed between Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway for the rest of the day.  The road will reopen that night at 9 PM.  During the closure, traffic on Custer Road should follow the posted detour and use Stonebridge Drive to go around the closure.  Local traffic from the west side can also use Independence Parkway to go around the closure.  Residents of Winding Creek Estates will need to access their neighborhood from Eldorado Parkway via Half Hitch Trail.  In addition, the only access to the Custer Star Kroger shopping center will be from Eldorado Parkway.

Monday, November 8:
Starting at 9 AM, Custer Road will be closed between Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway.  The road will reopen that night at 9 PM.  During the closure, traffic on Custer Road should follow the posted detours and use Stonebridge Drive or Independence to go around the closure.  Residents of Winding Creek Estates will need to access their neighborhood from Eldorado Parkway via Half Hitch Trail.  In addition, the only access to the Custer Star Kroger shopping center will be from Eldorado Parkway.

Tuesday, November 9:
Starting at 9 AM, Custer Road will be closed between Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway.  The road will reopen that night at 9 PM.  The detours will be the same as described for Monday above.

Wednesday, November 10:
Starting at 9 AM, Custer Road will be closed between Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway during the first part of the day, and then a different segment will be closed later in the day.  It is expected that the road closure will change in the afternoon so that Custer Road will be closed between Virginia Parkway and US 380 for the rest of the day.  The road will reopen that night at 9 PM.    During the closure, traffic on Custer Road should follow the posted detours and use Stonebridge Drive to go around the closure.  Local traffic on the west side can also use Independence Parkway to go around the southern closure in the morning and use Preston Road to go around the northern closure in the afternoon.  Residents of Winding Creek Estates and customers of the Custer Star Kroger shopping center will have the same limited access from Eldorado in the morning as the previous several days, but then will have access to Custer Road in the afternoon (weather permitting).

Thursday, November 11:
Starting at 9 AM, Custer Road will be closed between Virginia Parkway and US 380.  The road will reopen that night at 9 PM.  During the closure, traffic on Custer Road should follow the posted detour and use Stonebridge Drive to go around the closure.

Friday, November 12:
No road closures are scheduled for Friday, but if weather delays any of the work described above, the road closures could extend into Friday.

TxDOT has more detailed information about detours for the McKinney neighborhoods along Custer Road in their press release, which will be available Thursday, November 4, on the TxDOT website ( http://www.txdot.gov/news/local_news/dallas_news ) and the City of McKinney website ( http://www.mckinneytexas.org ).
