Week of January 8th, 2007

The week started out with a pleasant social on Monday evening. I always enjoy the Frisco ISD Trustee Reception where Board of Trustees and former board members are honored. We are very lucky to have a school district that has so many good volunteers that care about our children.

Tuesday was an early start for me. On behalf of our Mayor and City, I attended the monthly Metroplex Mayors Meeting that is held in Addison. As Mayor Pro Tem, I fill in for the Mayor when he is not available and this was one of those times. The Metroplex Mayors meeting is an opportunity to network with the other Mayors in north Texas. Presentations from other partners are always on agenda, including NTTA, TxDOT, COG, etc. I attended this meeting with our City Manager and Deputy City Manager. You have to get up pretty early to beat the morning traffic into Addison and this was no exception.

Wednesday was a busy day. I started off the morning meeting a Frisco resident about local issues and rolled right into a meeting at 11AM with a local marketing company that is looking at Frisco. Later that day, at 4PM, I attended the Arts of Collin County Commission meeting. I serve as VP on this 3-city board.

Thursday was an "off-day", where I only had one meeting with a local bank.

Friday saw another bank meeting which rolled right into a grant presentation at the Frisco Fire Department. Our Fire Department was given a grant by Fireman's fund insurance company.

Saturday was a very long day! Our mid-year work session started at 8AM and was over around 4PM. My first year on council in 2000, I opened my big mouth at the annual work session about following up on our goals at mid-year (our annual work session is typically in January). Well, here it is! Today was an opportunity to review the goals we set for our City last June and make adjustments, as necessary.

That evening was the Celebration of Athletes/Winter Games of Texas opening. Due to the inclement weather, it was moved indoors. On behalf of Mayor Simpson, I said a few words to the athletes. I really enjoyed being there and watching the excitement of all the athletes!
