Frisco Dynamos Proclamation

WHEREAS,                 The Frisco Dynamos, U16 Girls Recreational Soccer Team was formed in 2000.  The team is made up of players representing six Frisco High Schools, Celina and Plano Sr. High.

WHEREAS,                 On December 4^th and 5^th the Dynamos represented the Frisco Soccer Association in the 2010 North Texas Tournament of Champions. (TOC)  Held every December, the Tournament of Champions is the state tournament for recreational teams which are the champions of their local associations.

WHEREAS,                 The Dynamos playing in their third straight Tournament of Champions, representing Frisco Soccer Association, went undefeated en route to a 1-0 championship match victory and were crowned this year’s U 16 girls Division 1 State Champions.  

WHEREAS,                 Over the past few years the Dynamos have represented Frisco Soccer with distinguished accomplishments:  2008 U14 TOC Quarter-Finalists, Spring 2009 U14 Spring Kick Classic Finalists, Spring 2009 U14 Plano Youth Soccer Champions, 2009 U16 McKinney Fall Classic Champions, 2009 U16 TOC Semi-Finalist, Spring 2010 U16 Plano Youth Soccer Champions, 2010 U16 Spring Kick Classic Champions,  Fall 2010 U16 Plano Youth Soccer Champions, 2010 U16 Division 1 State Champions.

WHEREAS,                 The Dynamos have created a mini dynasty culminating in the fact that they have been defeated only once in their last 52 games and that was at the 2009 Tournament of Champions Semi-final game when they were a U15 Team Playing against U16 girls.                  

           

WHEREAS,                 The Frisco Dynamos team consists of: Coach Mike Korbuly, Coach Gordon Pavich, Coach John Coker, and Team Manager Teressa Pavich, players: McKall Peterson, Jillian Schneider, Megan Termini, McKenna Snetzer, Megan Cestari, Frances Adams, Kayleigh Bearden, Larissa Pavich, Mariah Terry, Alison Baez, Stephanie Swetlik, Erica Coker, Madison Miller, Hannah Hoffman, Aleysha Duran, and, Courtney Crooks.

Sun Devils 5-year old Frisco Football League Champions

       

WHEREAS,         The Sun Devils are a team of 5-year old first year players from the Frisco Football League; and

WHEREAS,         The Sun Devils are led by Head Coach, Mark Bellehumeur Assistant Coach, Shane Smith, Assistant Coach, David Warren, Team Mom, Heather Holman and Team Videographer, Ran Holman; and

WHEREAS,         The Sun Devils team consists of players: Gunnar Bellehumeur, Ben Brian, Jack Gayhart, Roark Holman, Caleb Kendall, Laundry Kendall, Barrett Kennedy, McCann Libby, Noah Perez, Dylan Smith, Tyler Stout, Jack Thomas, Gabriel Warren and Rohan Sharma; and

WHEREAS,                   The Sun Devils completed their regular season with a 7and 1 record.  They defeated the Broncos and Panthers in the play-offs on their road to the Championship game in November where they defeated the Gators 25-12.

New Fitness initiative

MAYOR’S HEALTH INITIATIVE TEAM PARTNERS WITH ‘GET HEALTHY TEXAS DAY’; 5K/1
MILE FUN RUNS TO BE HELD JAN. 22 AT FRISCO SQUARE

(January 19, 2011) For the City of Frisco, the New Year brings a new
approach to promoting healthy habits! On Saturday, January 22, Mayor Maher
Maso will announce the first in a series of health initiatives prior to
the start of the Get Healthy Texas 5K/1 mile fun run presented by CBS 11 &
TXA 21.

“I’ve never run a 5K before, but this Saturday will be a first step in
achieving that goal,” said Mayor Maher Maso, who will be participating in
the 1 mile fun run. “We’re proud to participate in Get Healthy Texas Day.
This is a great opportunity for folks to get educated about fitness
opportunities in Frisco.  We’re also going to make an announcement about a
new resource that will help residents celebrate fitness – with fun – right
here at home.”

The 5K/1 mile course will wind its way through Frisco Square, which is
east of the Dallas North Tollway and Main Street.   The one mile fun run
starts at 8:15 a.m.  The 5K gets underway at approximately 8:40 a.m.
Online registration is available for $10 at www.gethealthytexas.tv.
through today.  Walk-up registrations are welcome on Saturday morning.
Proceeds benefit Dallas Athletes Charities.

Following the 5K/1mile runs, citizens are invited to make their way to
FieldhouseUSA, 6155 Sports Village Road, where Get Healthy Texas Day
continues from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Once at FieldhouseUSA, participants will
enjoy free health screenings, including bone density, blood pressure and
glucose/cholesterol screenings – plus sports and fitness activities,
ranging from basketball and soccer to Zumba and family boot camps. All of
the Get Healthy Texas events at FieldhouseUSA are free!

Special guest speakers will address topics such as weight loss, nutrition,
and injury prevention. CBS 11 and TXA 21 news personalities including
Karen Borta and Doug Dunbar will be there to join their news team
colleagues for friendly ‘face offs’ in volleyball, basketball and
dodgeball competitions.

“We hope our residents will use this opportunity to get some exercise, get
off a diet and on a lifestyle that promotes overall wellness for a
lifetime,” said Mayor Maso.

Quiet Zones coming on January 5th.

“QUIET ZONES” GO INTO EFFECT AT FIVE FRISCO RAILROAD CROSSINGS BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5

(January 3, 2011) The City of Frisco has completed the process to establish a railroad ‘quiet zone,’ which will take effect at five railroad crossings in the city beginning Wednesday, January 5. The ‘quiet zone’

designation means train engineers will no longer sound a train’s horn when approaching the following street-level crossings, except in the case of an

emergency:

•     Southbound Dallas Parkway

•     Northbound Dallas Parkway

•     Frisco Square Boulevard

•     Main Street

•     All Stars Avenue

“Some of Frisco’s neighborhoods developed around rail lines that have been operating for decades,” said Brian Moen, Assistant Director of Engineering Services/Transportation. “Unless a crossing is designated as a ‘quiet zone,’ federal law requires train engineers to sound the horn 15 to 20 seconds prior to reaching a crossing. The ‘quiet zone’ designation will stop most of the unwanted train noise for these residents.”

The City of Frisco has been working since 2007 with the help of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) to make intersection improvements and upgrades at the railroad crossings that would meet the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) Train Horn Rule design and certification requirements. To meet FRA standards, the city had to make sure each crossing had certain supplemental safety measures in place including gates, flashing lights and median barriers.

 “Once the quiet zone is in effect, motorists still need to follow the same safety rules they have always followed at railroad crossings,” said Moen.  “Trains are approaching these crossings when the gates are down even though the horns can no longer be heard. You should never attempt to go around or under an active railroad gate.”

In addition, warning signs indicating there is no train horn will be installed on January 4 before the ‘quiet zone’ takes effect. Train engineers may still sound the horn to provide warning to animals, vehicle operators, trespassers or crews on other trains in an emergency situation.

During the first few weeks of the quiet zone, it is possible that residents will occasionally hear the train horn sounded at these crossings.  It can take time for all of the train engineers to receive information that a quiet zone has been established.  If residents continue to hear the horn after the first few weeks, they can notify the City of Frisco Engineering Department at 972-292-5400.

‘TEAM FRISCO’ HOSTS SPIRIT COMPETITION, AWARDS CASH PRIZES; JUST 11 DAYS UNTIL NCAA DIVISION I FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

(December 28, 2010) ‘Team Frisco’ and the Frisco Chamber of Commerce are calling on all Frisco businesses to show off their team spirit and compete for cash prizes!  The spirit contest deadline is Thursday, January 6.

Just eleven days left until the Delaware Blue Hens and the Eastern Washington Eagles land at Pizza Hut Park for the 2011 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game on Friday, January 7.

“We need your help to welcome our out-of-state guests to Frisco,” said Mayor Maher Maso, Honorary Chairman, “Team Frisco”, which is the local organizing committee.  “We may have as many as 8,000 new visitors to our community. Let’s make them feel at home and deck our town in red, white, blue – and gold, the competing teams’ colors.  Together, let’s show them how Frisco is redefining southern hospitality.”

“Team Frisco” -- which is made up of the City of Frisco, the Frisco Economic Development Corporation, the Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, Hunt Sports Group, Southland Conference and the Frisco Chamber of Commerce -- is offering a $400 first place, cash prize to the business that shows the most spirit, in the form of decorations, window dressing or dressing their employees in competing college colors during Game Week.

The game, which concludes a 20-team national playoff, is being hosted by the Southland Conference, the City of Frisco and Hunt Sports Group. SMU transfer Bo Levi Mitchell returns to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with his new team, the Eastern Washington Eagles. Mitchell has completed 271-of-462 passes for 3,194 yards and 34 touchdowns. The Katy, Texas, native (Katy HS), has a completion percentage of 58.7 and a pass rating of 134.96. When the Eagles take to the ground, they typically give the ball to Taiwan Jones, who averages 145.2 yards to rank second in the FCS. He has totaled 1,742 rushing yards and 221 carries for an average of 7.9 yards per carry. Jones, who has scored 14 rushing touchdowns, also ranks second in the subdivision with an average of 201.8 total yards per game. The Eagles are a top-10 team in both scoring offense, averaging 32.3 points per game to rank 12th, and in total offense, averaging 402.1 yards per game to rank 19th.

Television Coverage of Championship Game

The 2011 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game will be televised by ESPN2 HD and ESPN3.com. Dave Neal will handle play-by-play duties for the broadcast, while former Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware will serve as the color analyst. Jon Berger will offer anecdotes from the sideline. The telecast will begin at 6 p.m., CST.

SMU transfer Bo Levi Mitchell returns to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with his new team, the Eastern Washington Eagles. Mitchell has completed 271-of-462 passes for 3,194 yards and 34 touchdowns. The Katy, Texas, native (Katy HS), has a completion percentage of 58.7 and a pass rating of 134.96. When the Eagles take to the ground, they typically give the ball to Taiwan Jones, who averages 145.2 yards to rank second in the FCS. He has totaled 1,742 rushing yards and 221 carries for an average of 7.9 yards per carry. Jones, who has scored 14 rushing touchdowns, also ranks second in the subdivision with an average of 201.8 total yards per game. The Eagles are a top-10 team in both scoring offense, averaging 32.3 points per game to rank 12th, and in total offense, averaging 402.1 yards per game to rank 19th.

Television Coverage of Championship Game

The 2011 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game will be televised by ESPN2 HD and ESPN3.com. Dave Neal will handle play-by-play duties for the broadcast, while former Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware will serve as the color analyst. Jon Berger will offer anecdotes from the sideline. The telecast will begin at 6 p.m., CST.
